Installing Turf / Sod
It is important to remember that turf is a living plant that requires ground contact and moisture to survive. Therefore you should install your sod immediately upon delivery to ensure that your lawn will survive and flourish. Following are some helpful tips to guide you through installing your new lawn.
Turf Maintenance - Watering - Fertilizing - Mowing
Now that you have successfully installed your turf you will need to take steps to maintain the sod. As with any lawn you will want to water and fertilize the grass. In 1966 Norman Frye, a 4th generation farmer, took a 30 acre pasture and started renovating it by rolling and fertilizing to bring it up to standard for planting sod. In 1967 the first sale of sod was made thus creating Seven Cities Sod. Today, Seven Cities Sod plants over 650 acres of four different varieties of Kentucky Bluegrass and is entering its 6th generation of Frye owners.
As of today, we have expanded our acreage to 650 acres, of which 400 acres is under irrigation while still providing the most up-to-date Kentucky Bluegrass variety of which the industry demands. Our service area includes, but is not limited to, Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois usually within the parameters of a 150 mile radius of the Quad Cities.
Our specialized Seven Cities Sod Low Mow Blend of kentucky bluegrass includes four varieties of kentucky bluegrass seed combined to make our unique top notch blend. The seed is supplied from United Seed Inc. located in Des Moines, Iowa and is Certified Kentucky Blue Grass seed.

The varieties of Kentucky Bluegrass seed that we use to produce the Seven Cities Sod Low Mow Blend are well suited to the MidWest because they display an excellent green color, have a fine leaf texture, are drought-resistant, and recover quickly from wear. Kentucky Bluegrass varieties will perform well in both winter and summer and green up early in the spring.
We Sell sod wholesale and retail and also deliver the sod. We install sod (big roll only) to both wholesale and retail customers within our service area of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois, approximately in a 150 mile radius from Davenport, Iowa.
We also loan out machines and/or attachments for customers to install themselves.
We also believe in giving back to the communities in which we serve. Seven Cities Sod donates to local youth sports teams, colleges, high schools, and lend acreage's to several community organizations including the Davenport Soccer Association.
